Code Cracker
A logic puzzle: work out the hidden four-colour code in eight tries using the clues after each guess. Free in your browser.
How to play
The game picks a secret code of four colours from a set of six. Colours can repeat. Tap four colours to make a guess; it is checked as soon as the fourth is in.
After each guess you get up to four clue dots:
- Green means a colour is correct and in the correct position.
- Amber means a colour is in the code but in a different position.
- No dot means that colour is not in the code (or you have already accounted for every copy of it).
The dots are not in the same order as your guess. They only tell you how many of each kind you got.
How scoring works
You have eight tries. Solving on the first try scores 800, and each further try is worth 100 less, down to 100 on the eighth. Running out of tries scores nothing and reveals the code.
Tips
- Open with two colours, two of each (for example red, red, amber, amber). The clue tells you how many of each pair are in the code.
- Change one thing at a time once you have partial information, so you know what caused the clue to change.
- Remember repeats. If a guess with four different colours gives only two dots in total, at least one colour in the code appears twice or one is a colour you have not tried.
