What you do in the game
Steal a colour
- Touch or run through any coloured object to absorb its colour
- Your runner changes to that colour and leaves a matching trail
Pass matching barriers
- A barrier only lets through a runner of the same colour
- Pass every colour door in a level to open the goal portal
Beat the clock
- Reach the golden archway before the timer runs out for all 3 stars
- Stuck? The hint button replays a working route through the level

How Color Thief works
Every level is a short obstacle course with coloured barriers across the path. You cannot walk through a barrier unless your runner is the same colour, so the puzzle is working out which colour to pick up, and in what order, to get through every door.
- Steal a colour. Run through a glowing object to take its colour.
- Keep it. Your runner stays that colour until you take a different one.
- Phase through. Walk through any barrier that matches.
- Reach the goal. The portal at the end opens once you have passed every colour door.
Hazards
- Mismatched gates block you if you arrive in the wrong colour.
- Spikes end the attempt on contact. Jump over them.
- Chasms need a well-timed jump, and wide ones need a bounce pad.
Tips
- Hold the jump button for a full-height jump and tap it for a short hop. Short hops are safer under low ceilings and around spikes.
- The high jump trades distance for height. Use it for ledges, not for gaps.
- If a level seems impossible, press the lightbulb in the top bar. It plays back a route that works.

Is Color Thief free?
Yes. Color Thief is free to play in your browser on this page, with no download or account.
Why won't the goal portal open in Color Thief?
In campaign levels the goal portal only opens after you have passed through every colour door in the level. If the portal is closed, there is a door you have not gone through yet.
How do I do a high jump in Color Thief?
On a keyboard press Shift or X. On a touch screen, double tap the right side of the screen. The high jump reaches taller ledges but moves you sideways more slowly.
Is Color Thief available on Android?
An Android version is on the way. Until it is released, the browser version on this page is the way to play.
